TVS Motor Company announced the launch of its new 2012 Apache Series RTR with an all new beast themed styling. The new design, with all lines pulled back, all excesses eliminated and all curves chiseled to perfection, synergizes seamlessly with a high performance powertrain to look dynamic, even when stationary. The new design and styling has been incorporated in all TVS Apache models namely TVS Apache RTR 160, TVS Apache RTR 180 and TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS.

Chiseled and sharp tank shrouds constitute a revolutionary new aerodynamic package which helps reduce engine heat helping in unbridled top end performance for race enthusiasts and increasing the usable power and crispness of response.

The bike sports a sculpted digital console with new muscled styling and race inspired carbon fiber cues. The new nocturnal blue backlit display adds to the design element.

Leaner race designed new aggressively angled seat cowls along with a muscled engine cowl echoing an aerodynamic razored design, brings the new design full-circle, giving the RTR a racier feel.

The TVS Apache RTR series has best power-to-weight ratio in its class. Sheathed in edgy grunge-style graphics in dual colour scheme, the TVS Apache RTR 160 dishes out 15.2 ps of raw power and can be pushed to speeds up to 118 kmph. The TVS Apache RTR 180 however churns out 17.03 ps of bone-crunching power that can reach speeds of up to 124 kmph.

The new TVS Apache RTR 160 comes in four dual tone colours, namely green, red. Yellow and grey with black being the base. The new TVS Apache RTR 180 also comes in four colours of white, yellow, grey and black while the ABS version will be available in white and black.

The new TVS Apache Series RTR is immediately available in TVS dealerships across the country. While the TVS Apache RTR 160 will cost Rs. 67,505 (Ex showroom Delhi), TVS Apache RTR 180 will be Rs. 72,090 (Ex showroom Delhi) and TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS will cost Rs. 82,780 (Ex showroom Delhi).

The CRF250L is powered by a liquid-cooled 250-cc 4-stroke DOHC single-cylinder engine with powerful output in the low-to-mid rpm range. The Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza which is a two day festival held on April 7-8, draws riders, spectators and enthusiasts from all over Australia and gives punters the remarkable opportunity to dust off their old bikes and take to the track at the State Motorcycle Complex in Broadford.

The Honda dedicated “Golden Era” exhibition will be a celebration of 70’s – 80’s Australian motocross and will boast the actual Hondas the Australian motocross pioneer Jeff Leisk rode as well as a rare assembly of Motocross models from this Golden Era.

Special guests at the event will include 8-time Isle of Man TT winner Charlie Williams, World Speedway and Long Track legend Ivan Mauger as well as World Motocross star Jeff Leisk.

Other highlights of the festival include a Gala Dinner, a grand parade, movie night, evening speedway meeting, motorcycle displays, special guests and bikes from Australia and overseas.

With the aim of improving handling and achieving unprecedented levels of riding stability, the 2012 Fireblade boasts changes to the front and rear suspension. The rear suspension has the additional benefit of the world’s first balance-free rear cushion made by Showa while the front features a telescopic inverted fork with an inner tube and a newly adapted Showa big piston front fork. The result of these suspension modifications is significantly improved stability in both damping force and shock-absorbing performance, leading to improved traction and stability in the new CBR1000RR.

A newly designed, 12-spoke, lightweight aluminium cast wheel has been adopted for both the front and rear. Due to the increased number of spokes, rigidity has been further evened out for load received in all directions from the tyre contact points which offers improved manoeuvring feel.

Every generation of the Honda Fireblade has been characterised by a look of speed and dynamism, for 2012 these qualities have been further developed to highlight the bike’s racing image. With a line-beam headlight and air intake shapes adding even greater sharpness, the new CBR1000RR offers a novel and intrepid front face.

A new all-digital LCD meter design offers a truly racing inspired image offering excellent visibility and high functionality and with a 5-level display, the REV indicator linked to a digital tachometer instantly transmits accurate information to the rider.

According to the 2011 FCAI retail report*, Honda’s CRF50F was the top selling motorcycle with the CT110 and CBR250R following closely behind. Overall growth was recorded across three of Honda’s four product categories with ATVs leading the way with 21% growth followed by a 10.8% growth in Road and 5.7% in Scooter, Honda’s Off Road range remained fairly steady.

Honda Motorcycles General Manager, Tony Hinton is more than pleased with the manufacturer’s number one retail position; “this is a fantastic result for us, we have seen growth in many of our existing models and have also seen excellent take-up on new models we have introduced to the market”.

Honda’s CBR250R was the 2011 shining star after its release in March. The CBR250R shot to being the number one selling 250cc motorcycle and achieved 3rd model overall. However, it was Honda’s ever popular Funbike, the CRF50F that topped the charts for 2011 as the best selling model.

Several Honda models led their class; the legendary CBR1000RR was the number one selling super sport model, the CB400 led the naked category, Honda’s CRF250R proved the most popular in the motocross category and the CRF230F was the top trail model.

Confident that the motorcycle market will continue its positive trend, Mr Hinton said, “the overall market has gained momentum in the last 12 months and we look forward to sales remaining strong as we move into 2012.

2011 saw some exciting new releases for Honda. The all-new CBR250R was released in March and has already forged a steady following. An updated TRX500FM range was released in August boasting technological advancements ensuring its continued popularity in the market. Other 2011 product releases included the Dio Scooter and the VFR800X Crossrunner.

Adrian Ikin, a keen motorcyclist almost missed the announcement of his huge win when it was announced in the sunshine at Thredbo, but he was sure not to miss the pick-up of his new Honda Sports Tourer last week.

It was my first Snowy Ride and my friends and I had a great time even before the announcement of the win!”. Adrian said. “The best thing about the ride was the sense of community, everyone was there for a common goal and everyone was open, friendly and chatty.

Adrian said he and his friends were sitting towards the back of the crowd when the announcement was made and didn’t hear his name called, “I was so excited that someone had won the Honda VFR1200 and was having such a good time relaxing that when my friend came running towards me screaming that I’d won I really didn’t believe him.

Adrian’s initial impression of the VFR1200 upon picking it up from New World Honda in Narre Warren was the styling; “the shape and design really stand out with this bike, it is amazing to believe that such a powerful engine is housed in such a sleek exterior” Adrian said. “I also love the colour and paintwork, this bike is definitely going to stand out on the road.

Adrian, who rides a Honda Goldwing, said the VFR1200 will be perfect for commutes to work and he anticipates it will handle the roads in his area of Gippsland incredibly well. “I’ll save the Goldwing for really long trips; my wife says she enjoys riding pillion on the Goldwing so much she’s able to fall asleep.”

The Goldwing is in fact the reason Adrian and his wife went to the Snowy Ride in the first place, “I had wanted a Goldwing for a long time and after purchasing one in the middle of 2011 I knew I absolutely had to attend the Snowy Ride.
